Mission: The mission of the Education and Wellness Committee is to ensure that every student in GCSD achieves to their highest potential through a stimulating and properly administered curriculum. Using a holistic approach, we aim to instill a climate of high expectations for individual accomplishment while giving the emotional support that will allow students to thrive. For this, the Committee will work closely with the Administration to review instructional programs, testing results as well as emotional and physical wellness programs. We will use a data-based approach to support successful strategies and implement new strategies to bolster academic achievement and socioemotional learning of our students.

The Committee’s specific goals are:

  • Regularly evaluate curricular programs (academics, arts, and support) and extracurricular programs (student activities, athletics).
  • Review standardized testing scores to gauge the District’s progress.
  • Ensure a holistic, socioemotional approach to educating our students.
  • Hold public meetings on a monthly basis that will include short presentations by the Committee, Departmental and Program Directors, Guidance Staff or Administrators.
  • Serve as a forum for proposals from District stakeholders.
  • Hear concerns about education and wellness programs, and guide residents to appropriate District resources that are best-equipped to address these concerns.

The Education and Wellness Committee will inform the entire Board of the progress that the District is making, as well as propose policy, procedure and programmatic changes for the Board’s review and approval.
